Barack & Curtis: Manhood, Power & Respect

I feel compelled to share this. It’s what I’ve been saying for a long time now, and finally, someone has expressed it as well as I could have only hoped. That being, the strong parrallels that can be drawn between the modern, public impression of black, gangsta masculinity and white, capitalistic society and “success.”

A short documentary film examining the contrasting styles of manhood exhibited by Presidential Candidate Barack Obama and Rapper/Mogul Curtis Jackson, aka 50 Cent.

Props to Eskay for linking this on his blog

VIDEO - My Barack Obama Handshake

UPDATE!! 10-04-2008: MY VIDEO WILL APPEAR ON CNN! This morning I received a phone call from CNN that my video, also submitted to their iReport website, would be picked up for on-air use. First, Philadelphia City Paper.. now CNN. This has been a big week for me!

Vincent J. Brown:

October 3rd, 2008 (Abington, PA) - Barack Obama, while campaigning in the Abington suburb of Philadelphia, shook MY hand. A wonderful experience. Here’s the video

In the video, you can hear the Secret Service agent talking to me. First telling me to move my camera behind me because it was hanging over the railing and Barack Obama, speaking directly to me calling me, “Sir.” Better photos from my Canon DSLR to come.

Recorded with a jailbroken, 16GB Apple iPhone 3G (white)

UPDATE: CNN.com features my iReport video under “Latest News”

Penchant For Sharing My Photos Online Backfires In A Humorous Way

flickr badge
Hey friends,

The following link is a perfect example of how making your photos available for free use (under the Creative Commons license) can backfire.. LOL. Try to find the picture of “ME!”

Five Ways Productivity Can Turn You Into a Real Nutjob

I just think that’s hilarious because even my close friends made fun of me for wearing that Bluetooth thing in my ear while skiing. In all fairness, that photo was taken last year and I have since changed my ways. However, I am happy to see that my photos are being used, everyday, to accompany editorial items online: Consumerist.com (a consumer empowerment website), Tech blogs and various other outlets.

Philadelphia Blogmap

Philadelphia Blogmap
Philadelphia Blogmap

The above featured website is a map that organizes bloggers in Philadelphia by their proximity to a SEPTA stop. When you mouse over each of the neighborhood stops, a list drops down indicating the blogs near it. This is a great tool for finding bloggers close to you or who write about your neighborhood.

I’ve added my little photo-journal to the map, see if you can find it.
