Harlem, NY – Apollo Tribute for MJ

I visited the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY two days after Michael Jackson died.

Thousands of names were scrawled on a wall in memory of the deceased pop star

Or rather, “Sk8 Patrick’s Day,” as the title eludes. is what I call the photo walkabout that Melody Kramer (her photos) and I embarked on this past Saturday, March 14, 2009.

The day started out like any other… lazy Saturday, no plans. Everything was normal and dull until Melody reached out across the the Twitterverse for some companionship on a photowalk through the city of Philadelphia. I obliged and met her in Center City.

We took the shortcut through City Hall where we came upon the skaters (don’t call them Sk8ers).

We moved on from City Hall to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul where Melody snapped these great photos inside. We left there after a brief walk through, I didn’t take any photos. We met the “tour guide” who confessed to us that he’d only been on the job for 2 hours. His name was Dan, look him up at the Cathedral and tell him Melody and Vince sent ya *wink*

We had lunch at TGIFridays on the Parkway and watched as many a drunk bar crawler stumbled by our window seat. Stepped out side and found the green scene:

Watchmen promo event at Brave New Worlds in Philadelphia, PA

Friday night I went to the 9:45p screening of the highly anticipated graphic novel-turn-movie “Watchmen (2009)” with friends. One thing, if you see the movie this weekend, get there early enough to ensure your crew can sit together.

All things considered, I enjoyed the movie immensely. We saw it in an IMAX theater at the AMC Loews 24 in Cherry Hill, NJ. Very small theater despite being IMAX. I’m used to bigger screens and better seating at the Neshaminy AMC theater. Despite the movie being 3 hours long, it didn’t feel like it. Sure your body gets tired from prolong sitting, but my mind never wandered. I was always deep into the film. There are a lot of great visuals, subplots and psychological twists in the film to keep you engaged. At times, it can be a little campy and corny, but let’s face it, it takes place in the 80′s!

My critical review of this movie in 3 words: It was good. You definitely don’t want to be the only one in your crew who hasn’t seen it THIS weekend.

The last part of the first paragraph is what has spurred me to embark on a new project, called Philadelph.com – The website will focus exclusively on my photography of my hometown city of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Geeks Who Give is an organized event of Philadelphia’s tech and creative scenes to give back to needy charities and the communities around us. The first event was held at the National Mechanics bar and restaurant in Old City, Philadelphia PA. Many many boxes and bags of non-perishable food items were collected for Philabundance.

October 3rd, 2008 (Abington, PA) – Barack Obama, while campaigning in the Abington suburb of Philadelphia, shook MY hand. A wonderful experience. Here’s the video

In the video, you can hear the Secret Service agent talking to me. First telling me to move my camera behind me because it was hanging over the railing and Barack Obama, speaking directly to me calling me, “Sir.” Better photos from my Canon DSLR to come.

The sunrise on the Atlantic ocean in Brigantine, NJ is one of the most majestic things I’ve experienced.

The beach patrol in Brigantine were pretty cool, not as overzealous like they can be in Ocean City. My opinion.

Sunset… red sky at night is a sailors delight. We had beautiful weather all weekend.

On our last day, we were up early before sunrise. Charley.

Joe looks cold. The water was actually warmer than the ambient temperature. 72 in the water, 65 on land.

As the sun peaks its head over the horizon, Charley runs to it with reckless abandon.

Truly a free-spirit. I love it. Labor Day: This is the last day she can wear this much white.

I wanted a photo of myself with the sunrise. Almost. Kinda.

Getting frustrated with the self-portraits, I decided to take it out on the sun by pinching it.

Life is good in Brigantine, NJ.

Hah… a photo I took when I first got my 1st Gen iPhone made its way onto another technology blog recently. My gnarled hands are in beautiful contrast to my pristine, jailbroken iPhone, in this particular shot, LOL.

More than anything though, I’m proud and amazed that so many people choose to use my photos, and this one in particular, over and over again to accent their blog posts.
