UPDATE!! 10-04-2008: MY VIDEO WILL APPEAR ON CNN! This morning I received a phone call from CNN that my video, also submitted to their iReport website, would be picked up for on-air use. First, Philadelphia City Paper.. now CNN. This has been a big week for me!

October 3rd, 2008 (Abington, PA) – Barack Obama, while campaigning in the Abington suburb of Philadelphia, shook MY hand. A wonderful experience. Here’s the video

In the video, you can hear the Secret Service agent talking to me. First telling me to move my camera behind me because it was hanging over the railing and Barack Obama, speaking directly to me calling me, “Sir.” Better photos from my Canon DSLR to come.

Commerce Bank International Cycling Championship

So, I got out early today and photographed the huge bike race that was in Philadelphia. It’s important to remember that these photos belong to ME

What: The 24th running of the Commerce Bank Triple Crown of Cycling: Philadelphia International Championship. More than 200 of the world’s top male professional cyclists descend upon the city of Philadelphia to race in the longest running and most important single-day cycling road race in the United States. The cyclists will complete 10 laps of a 14.4-mile circuit through Philadelphia. They will finish with three laps of Lemon Hill and Logan Circle, having logged 156 miles total in one of the biggest special sporting events in the country. – ProCyclingTour.com

Philly Obama Rally (pics)

The rally was great.. there was over 35,000 people there. I walked around for a bit, met people, ran into friends and perfect strangers. The atmosphere was electrifying and gave me hope for the future. All of these people, unified regardless of race, gender and social standing all in support of a single, African American candidate. Everyone was friendly, parents brought their children, there were lots of couples and big groups of college students. My favorite sights while at the rally were the parents lifting children on their shoulders so they could see what everyone was clamoring about.

Unfortunately I wasn’t close enough to see Barack or get a good photo of him, his voice had enough of an impact on myself and the 34,999 others around me

The first thing I noticed was the impressive police presence.

In this photo you can see a police officer tipping his hat toward me while two sharp shooters make their way to their next position. Later on that evening, snipers and spotters were clearly visible atop the buildings surrounding Obama’s speech podium.

Supporters gathered on the other side of Arch street… while the more brazen supporters gathered on the lawn of the Independence Visitors Center.

Unexpectedly, I ran into an old friend. His art and work ethic has inspired me to move forward with my photography interests.

Some of the best spectators turned out to be the little ones. Although they didn’t understand what was going on entirely, their demeanor and blissfulness should set an example for everyone.

And the massive crowd disperses.

According to official reports, Sen. Barack Obama drew 35,000 people at the downtown rally in Independence Park — Making the crowd at the event his largest ever. The sea of people sprawled across nearly three city blocks.

The Newest Time Waster “Line Rider” Featured in TIME

Now in beta form, the addictive, low-tech time waster was introduced just last month and has quickly amassed a worldwide cult following. Created by a programmer with the screen name ~fsk who claims to be from the small European country of Slovenia, the digital amusement first showed up Sept. 23 on deviantART…

This is somewhat noteworthy to me because I’ve been a member of deviantART since it was created in 2000 and I worked closely with the artists there over that period of time. Business.com is launching a user-contributed small-business manual today at Work.com. The site already hosts more than 1000 guides dealing with contracts, accounting, financing, et cetera. Most guides are super basic, but the provided templates generally render them well-organized.

A website “DeviouslyArtistic.com” has been created by deviantART.com co-founder Scott “Jark” Jarkoff and run by Rich (aka deviot), Matt (aka matteo) and a team of others. The thought that brought this website into being was the need for exposure of artwork and artists that are getting lost in the rapidly increasing membership at deviantART.com. On a daily basis, fantastic works of art are going unnoticed, much to the detriment and concern of art appreciators like those who run Deviously Artistic [and keep it breathing with a breathe of fresh art, daily].

Welcome to the “soft launch” of Deviously Artistic. Our goal here is quite simple: feature art and deviants that are located on deviantART.

We have a small, tight-knit group of artists on the Deviously Artistic team that love to browse deviantART aimlessly and always wanted the opportunity to feature art that they believe deserves more exposure. Considering how many submissions there are to deviantART on a daily basis it is well known that a lot of art goes unnoticed. With our simple plan, we intend to change that!
